Retro Eddie the Eagle logo inspires 125th Anniversary Spiritwear Line
“Where’s that old eagle mascot?”
We hear this question surprisingly often from longtime SCS families. Often enough, in fact, that we decided to bring this logo back as part of our year-long 125th year celebration. Here’s the back story behind the beloved Eddie the Eagle logo, and how Eddie inspired a retro line of SCS spiritwear.
Eddie’s Story
In a bygone era of Sheboygan County Christian High School athletics, SCCHS had a “puffed chest” eagle mascot that was popular among the high school community. Perhaps inspired by the University of Wisconsin Madison’s “Bucky the Badger,” which features similar “Aggressive animal mascot in school sweater marching forward” this logo graced various SCCHS spiritwear items over the years. You can still spot the occasional original Eddie the Eagle gear at SCS sporting events.
Merging the Old with the New
SCS Alumni graphic designer Mark Ritsman (’01) was generous enough to lend his expertise to the project and make this vision a reality. Ritsman took the main elements from the original patch and gave Eddie a nice clean feel. Since Sheboygan Christian School and Sheboygan County Christian High School merged to form Sheboygan Christian School (SCS), Sheboygan County’s only P-12 Christian School, we’ve dropped the “County” and “High” from our name, but we’re still very proud of our heritage. That’s where Eddie comes in to help us celebrate a piece of that heritage in the 2023-2024 school year- our 125th of operation.
Our school was founded in 1898, making 2023-2024 a full year of celebration of God’s faithfulness to our school community for 125 years and counting!
